How the score is worked out
Speed in words per minute (WPM) is the number of correct characters, divided by 5, divided by the minutes you typed.
Raw WPM counts all the characters you typed. Accuracy is the share of your keystrokes that were right. A mistake that you fix with backspace still counts as an error.
Questions
How is WPM worked out?
The test counts the correct characters you typed. It divides that number by 5 to get words. Then it divides by the minutes you typed.
What is the difference between WPM and raw WPM?
Raw WPM counts all the characters you typed, also the wrong ones. WPM counts only the correct ones, so it is never higher than raw WPM.
What does the Weak keys mode do?
It picks words that have the letters you got wrong most often in your past tests. Without a history of mistakes, it uses the normal word list.
How can I type faster?
Look at the text, not at the keys. Type slowly and right first. Speed comes later. Practice a few minutes each day, and use the Weak keys mode.
Where is my history saved?
In your browser only. It holds your last 50 results and the count of hits and errors for each key. You can clear it at any time. Read more about privacy.
Can I use the test on my phone?
Yes. Tap the text box to open the keyboard. The timer starts when you type the first character.
