Typing Test

1-minute typing test

A 1-minute typing test is the most common speed test. You type for 60 seconds, and your score is in words per minute.

One minute is long enough to be fair. It is short enough to repeat. Take it a few times and watch your average.

The test starts with Words and 60 seconds. You can still change the mode or the time.

Take the test

Click the text and type. The timer starts on your first key.

How the score is worked out

In a 1-minute test, the minutes are 1. So your WPM is the number of correct characters divided by 5.

Why 60 seconds

A short test can give a lucky score. A test of 60 seconds gives a more steady number.

Most typing speeds that you read online come from a test of one minute. So you can compare your score with other people.

How to read your score

Take the test three times. Your best score shows what you can do. Your average shows what you do on a normal day.

Look at accuracy too. A score with many mistakes is not a good score. Try to keep your accuracy above 95 percent.

Questions

Why is a typing test 60 seconds long?

One minute is the usual length for a speed test. It is long enough for a steady score. It is short enough to repeat many times.

What is a good score on a 1-minute test?

Many people type about 40 WPM. A score of 60 or more is fast. Your own progress matters more than a fixed number.

Do I lose points for a mistake?

A wrong character that stays in the text does not count in your WPM. Each wrong keystroke lowers your accuracy, also if you fix it.

How many times should I take the test?

Take it three times and look at the average. One score can be high or low by chance. The history on this page shows your last results.
