In a 30-second test, the minutes are 0.5. So your WPM is the number of correct characters divided by 5, divided by 0.5.
When to use a short test
Use a 30-second test for a quick check, a warm-up or a day with little time.
Your speed in a short test is often a little higher than in a long test. You do not get tired in 30 seconds.
How a short test is scored
The formula is the same as in the long tests. Only the minutes change.
A short test has fewer keystrokes. So one mistake changes your accuracy more than in a long test.
Take two or three tests and use the average. One short test can be high or low by chance.
Questions
Is a 30-second test accurate?
It is a fair quick check. A short test has more chance in it, so the score can change from one test to the next. Take two tests and use the average.
Why is my speed higher in 30 seconds?
You do not get tired in a short test. You can start fast and keep that speed. In a long test most people slow down.
How is WPM worked out for 30 seconds?
The test uses 0.5 minutes. It divides the correct characters by 5, and then by 0.5. So 100 correct characters give 40 WPM.
Can I change the time?
Yes. Choose 15, 60, 120 or 300 seconds with the buttons above the text. The test starts again with a new text.
